To affirm something is to assert it as valid or confirmed. A positive affirmation is a statement that can help you to challenge and overcome what is called, “negative self talk” which acts as self-sabotaging thoughts. Using positive affirmations in your daily life is a great way to remove unhealthy thinking patterns. This practice will replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts; shaping your reality into a future you desire.
I am worthy of love, happiness and success.
I have the drive and ambition to achieve my goals.
I release all negativity and thoughts that no longer serve me.
Affirmations should always be written or spoken in the present tense and become a regular practice. You should believe that your statements are completely true or have already happened - similar to manifesting. Your affirmations should make you feel inspired, energized, and overall happy.
Start by asking yourself what you want. But remember, any doubts you have will stand in your way, so be sure that it's something you truly want. This is a reason why people don’t get positive results, because they don’t truly believe their affirmations.
Affirmations can be used everyday, multiple times a day. They should become routine, and eventually habits. Building new habits changes the way you think. This is how daily affirmations “rewire” your brain to think a certain way.
Affirmations are easy to incorporate into your every-day routine. You can practice them by repeating them out loud, in your head, or by writing them down.
Start by saying them when you wake up in the morning, while you’re brushing your teeth or making your bed. Looking at yourself in the mirror while repeating them may also help. Writing them out and putting them in visible places, (on doors, mirrors, or your phone background) will allow it to become ingrained in your brain.
Don’t try to use too many affirmations at once, as it will be more difficult to focus on them.
If you don't know where to start, don’t worry! Louise Hay, a well known thought leader in the “New Thought Movement,” gives us 101 power thoughts to get you started:
Now you might be wondering, how do affirmations even work? How can I change my life by just saying words?
Our minds have a lot more impact on our lives than we give credit. Positive affirmations, like positive thoughts, keep us motivated. If we repeat our goals often, our minds are more focused on them. Then, we become more likely to take the necessary steps to transform our inner and external worlds and make them better.
Affirmations work by altering our mindset through practice to create better habits, experiences, and overall lives.
For example, say you have trouble controlling negative feelings such as anger, frustration, or impatience. Try repeating the affirmation: “I am calm, focused, and relaxed” daily.
The next time you pour a bowl of cereal and realize there’s no milk, or someone cuts you off in traffic and you find yourself feeling these negative emotions, you’ll panic less. Your subconscious mind will remember the affirmation you’ve been repeating, and it will become much easier to stay calm and collected in frustrating situations.
There are many benefits to repeating positive affirmations. Our subconscious mind is constantly filled with negative thoughts. In fact, research shows that negative thoughts outnumber the amount of positive thoughts we have in a day.
Using positive affirmations help us to rewire these negative thoughts and focus on the good aspects of our lives instead. They help improve our quality of life, health, relationships, and self-confidence. They can also help motivate and set us up for success.
Positive affirmations can alter your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, behaviors, and ultimately change your life. Practicing your affirmations can do so much good for your mental health. So, get rid of “negative self-talk” all together by putting a little extra effort into practicing positive thoughts. Then, watch the power of affirmations take over.
